Bohmer (Clive) from Bohmer’s Tree Care – aka ‘The Tree Whisperer’
Bohmer is a climbing name given to Director and Chief Arborist Clive Woodnutt, which means ‘Man of the Trees’ due to his high standard of technical knowledge, approach to safety and genuine care and passion for all things trees. You might even spot him dressed up as The Tree Whisperer at a community or school event to educate families about the importance of trees in their environment!
An innovative and award-winning, locally owned family business run by Clive and Natasha Woodnutt, Bohmer has over 30 years international arboriculture experience and working with trees is all he’s ever known.
“I love the work that I do, but what I find most rewarding is working with people and communities who care as much about trees as we do,” he told Kiama Focus.
“We have customers in the Kiama and surrounding areas of Gerringong, Jamberoo, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven who return to us time and time again who trust us to take care of their trees and gardens, and they know we’ll give them honest advice – which includes tips to keep their trees healthy and their homes safe.”
In fact, Bohmer is not a fan of the term ‘Tree Lopper’ and would prefer to preserve trees and keep them healthy, with removal always a last resort.
Bohmer is contracted by Kiama, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven, Wingecarribee and Wollongong Councils along with the SES and others to carry out essential and emergency skilled arboriculture work. He also teaches Arboriculture at TAFE.
“We train and mentor lots of young people, male and female, who approach us to assist them with their career and if they have a strong work ethic and respect our unique approach to safety, skills and customer service, they stay with us and really become part of our family.”
“We know eachother’s families and we spend time together outside work, so it’s a great team that we have, and we know our customers appreciate this when they contact us and trust us to take care of their gardens and homes.”
Clive even took out the highly regarded NSW Govt/SAFEWORK Award for Leadership – up against some impressive much larger and well known company Directors – for his ongoing work to provide a safe and ethical environment for his workers and customers, with the company also awarded Winners at the Local Business Awards, along with many other impressive awards and accolades.
“While the work can be demanding, including emergency calls in the middle of the night during wild weather, it is very rewarding in so many ways, however it’s being able to give back to other organisations in the community such as Green Connect, Need a Feed, SALT (Supporting and Linking Tradeswomen), The Men’s Shed and more that makes the journey of our busy local family business so worthwhile.”
Say hi to Bohmer if you see him around or call him if you’ve got a question about your trees!
