Sad to see it go: One of Wollongong’s most recognised and much loved trees
Heavy winds recently brought down the large, iconic gum tree at the front of Wollongong’s Art Gallery.
While the tree was beyond being saved, luckily no-one was hurt and there was only minor damage done to the building’s fourth floor balcony railing.
We’re waiting to hear whether it will be replaced by another branched beauty, however it feels a little like ‘The Gong’ has lost some of its soul and nothing can ever replace the city’s stories and history that were carved out under its shade.
